About Us
Our Story
My name is Marcus, and I started Contra Malum from a kitchen table in Texas with one question: Why is it so hard to find spiritual protection that feels real?
Growing up, I watched my grandmother reach for her St. Benedict medal before every long drive, every hard conversation, every moment that mattered. It wasn't jewelry to her. It was a quiet shield — something solid she could touch when the world felt heavy. She never preached. She just wore it. And that made it more powerful than any sermon.
Years later, when I went looking for something like hers, I hit a wall. On one side, there was cheap, mass-produced junk that turned green after a week. On the other, heavy, preachy pieces that felt more like costumes than companions. Nothing was built for real life. Nothing felt honest. Nothing I could wear to work, to the gym, to bed — without feeling like I was putting on a show.
So I stopped looking. And I started building.
What We Stand For
Contra Malum was born from a simple, stubborn belief: The oldest protection in the world deserves honest craft.
We don't do gimmicks. We don't do guilt. We don't promise miracles. What we do is simple: we create pieces that are meant to be worn — through showers, workouts, sleepless nights, and early mornings. Solid medals with real weight. Soft cords that don't irritate. Knots that hold.
Every bracelet that leaves our workshop carries the St. Benedict medal — a symbol of protection that dates back over 1,500 years. But we don't treat it like a relic in a museum. We treat it like what it is: a tool for daily life. Something you put on when you need a reminder that you're not facing the world alone.
Built for the Wearer, Not the Shelf
We design for the nurse finishing a double shift. The mom driving home late from work. The soldier lacing up his boots. The student walking into an exam. The person who doesn't need to announce their faith to the room, but needs to feel it on their wrist.
Our customers aren't looking for jewelry to display. They're looking for armor they can live in.
That's why we obsess over the details other brands skip. The weight of the medal. The softness of the cord. The way it sits under a sleeve without catching. The way it ages with you — developing a warmth and patina that makes it unmistakably yours.
A Community of the Quietly Brave
Today, Contra Malum is worn by over 3,000 people across the United States — and every one of them has a story. Some wear it for protection. Some wear it for peace. Some wear it because it was a gift from someone who loves them. And some wear it simply because it grounds them when nothing else does.
We don't ask you to explain yourself. We just ask you to wear it with intention.
Every medal carries a story.
Every bracelet is made to carry yours.
Thank you for being part of the Contra Malum journey.
Together, let's stand against evil — one bracelet at a time.
